Set up your call app and audio devices

Table of Contents

Taiwa sits between your call app and your headset. Your call app talks to Taiwa's devices. Taiwa talks to your headset.

1. Set your call app

In the audio settings of your call app:

  1. Set the speaker to Taiwa Meeting Speaker.
  2. Set the microphone to Taiwa Meeting Microphone.

The Devices tab of Taiwa shows these two steps under Set up your call app.

Taiwa has two more audio devices, Taiwa Speaker Return and Taiwa Mic Feed. Taiwa uses them itself. Do not select them anywhere.

2. Select your own devices in Taiwa

On the Devices tab, under Your devices:

  1. Select Your microphone.
  2. Select Your headset.

Your devices on the Devices page

Use a headset. With loudspeakers, the customer hears their own voice come back.

3. Keep Windows on your own devices

In the Windows sound settings, your own speaker and microphone must stay the default devices. Do not make a Taiwa device the Windows default. If one is the default, other apps can send sound to the customer or record the customer. Taiwa shows a red warning when this happens.

Echo cancellation

The Devices tab says where echo cancellation points.

  • Echo cancellation is set to your headset: the customer does not hear themselves.
  • Echo cancellation is using the Windows default device: your microphone does not let Taiwa choose. The customer can sometimes hear their own voice come back. Another microphone can allow it.

When you do not translate

When translation is off, Taiwa passes the audio through without a change. The Session tab then says Audio passing through, not translated. You can leave your call app on the Taiwa devices for every call.

If you also use the Taiwa extension

Turn off its Auto-start translation when a call begins setting, and do not start it on a call that the Windows app translates.
