What the installer adds
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| The app | Installed for all users of the computer, in Program Files\Taiwa. |
| The update service | A Windows service named Taiwa Updater. It runs only while an update is checked or installed. |
| The audio driver | Four virtual audio devices: Taiwa Meeting Speaker, Taiwa Meeting Microphone, Taiwa Speaker Return and Taiwa Mic Feed. |
The installer and the program files are signed by Kanso CX Ltd.
Requirements: Windows 11, on a 64-bit computer.
The latest installer is always at https://updates.taiwa.cx/desktop/Taiwa-Setup.msi.
Install silently
msiexec /i Taiwa-Setup.msi /qn
The audio devices need an administrator
The app adds its audio devices from the Devices tab, with Install Taiwa's audio devices. Windows asks for an administrator. On computers where agents are standard users, do this step once for them.
The audio devices belong to the computer. All users of the computer share them.
Decide who owns updates
By default, an agent can install an update from the app's Settings tab. This works for standard users, because the update service does the install.
If your IT team owns patching, turn that off:
msiexec /i Taiwa-Setup.msi MANAGEDINSTALL=1 /qn
The app then says Updates are managed by your organisation, and it offers no update. You deploy each new version yourself.
- The value is remembered. A later install or repair that does not name
MANAGEDINSTALLkeeps it. - Only an explicit
MANAGEDINSTALL=0turns the app's own updates on again. - Group policy can do the same on an installed computer:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Taiwa\DisableSelfUpdate.
Remote Desktop and virtual desktops
Taiwa must run on the computer that has the microphone and the headset. In a Remote Desktop session, Taiwa cannot see the audio devices, and the app says so.
Network
See Network requirements.
Uninstall
An uninstall removes the app, the update service, the audio devices, and the Taiwa data of every Windows account on the computer.
Before you uninstall, set each call app back to its own headset. A call app that still points at a Taiwa device has no microphone after the uninstall. See Remove the Windows app.
